THE HISTORY BEHIND SWISS INSTRUMENTS

1952

Kurt Peyer emigrates from Zurich Switzerland to Canada. Arriving in Quebec, he makes his way to Granby.  Where he worked as an Instrument Maker for B.O.P (Beaconing Optical and Precision Materials) until 1954.

1953

May 11th - Swiss Instruments Co.Reg. is registered.

Kurt's father in Switzerland approaches the PIERRE ROCH family and obtains the rights to sell their product (ETALON micrometers) in Canada.

1954

Leaves Quebec office to be run by his secretary Miss Gwen Monty.

Moves business to Toronto @ 1411 Bloor Street, rents two rooms.

Begins to represent ALINA Dial Gauges

1st Montreal Show - lots of interest from the government & universities!

1955

First business trip to Switzerland.  Obtained representation of : ISOMA (Optical Comparators), CARY (Gauge Blocks), DC (Thread Gauges), BONI(Tool Holders) & REGLUS(Clinometers / EDM Holders).

1st Toronto Trade Show, establish first dealer - HC Burton (Hamilton)

Sold first small drill grinder to Strite Industries

Bloor Street location was robbed of items in for repair.  Need to move.

1956

Moved to Landsdown location, but still not the right spot.

1957

Moved to 2077 Davenport Road.Swiss Instruments moves to 2077 Davenport Rd in 1957

Married Mabel (nee Davis) who then began helping with the receivables.

1958

Showroom furniture from the 1950sDuring their North American trip, Andre S.A. of Lausanne Switzerland signed a contract for Canadian representation of the TSCHUDIN Grinders and CHRISTEN drill grinders.  Thus opening the business into the machine tool market.

While in Europe, other lines signed on, such as SOLID drilling machines, PETERMANN automatics and from Alina - ACIERA, DUFOUR and EBOSA.
